Kanye’s always right!!

I wanted to touch briefly on fads and the classic man’s fear of them. I believe one of the most important components to a human beings conscious mind is identity. Learning who we are and what makes us who we are. Ever since we were children we have been taught that we are special and one of a kind. This is true, however the idea of identifying ourselves as separate from the rest of the world can also be a crutch; especially when it comes to fashion and personal style. Fads and trends have no place in “personal style” because they are everything but personal or original. So a lot of fashion conscious men tend to shy away from the trendy to stand out in the crowd. But what if, what is trendy actually compliments your personal style? What if, what’s popping actually pops on you? The answer my friend is very simple: You put that shit on!

Now, I have not been a fan of the oversized or long cut men’s shirts since they first popped up on the scene. Why? because they were too trendy for my taste. Men all over the globe, wearing t-shirts and sweaters that fell down past the knees (which is still too long in my book.) was not my cup of tea. The look wasn’t bad, in fact in some cases it looked pretty cool, but I had made up my mind that it was a trend I wouldn’t chase after.

Fast forward to  last week. I was out shopping for basics with my beautiful partner in crime and we come across the shirts. After about 5 minutes of shit talking and bad mouthing every man who ever wore one of these swag killers (especially Kanye West), my lady says, “try it on and see how it looks”… Without thinking, I do just that, and OH SHIT!!! It looked good!! It looked real good. I stared at myself in the mirror and thought “Damn-it! Kanye is ALWAYS right”. Then I bought the shirt and two others just like it and walked out of the store with a bag full of fads! Check out the look…

The scenery is awesome. I wanted an industrial feel to go with this look. The valley Plaza in North Hollywood has a slew of old abandoned buildings that are perfect for photoshoots.

The lesson I learned here is simple: Fads aren’t all that bad. Personal style doesn’t always have to be different. Sometimes what’s trendy will compliment your personal style perfectly. So don’t talk shit…just try it on! Unless you see someone wearing a shirt that falls down to the ankles like a sun-dress. In that case, talk all the shit you want!
